Plenary Presenter Dr. Cheryl Wachenheim
Cheryl Wachenheim comes to us as an Associate Professor in the Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics at North Dakota State University. She currently teaches courses in agricultural sales, commodity marketing, strategic management, and introductory economics. With the exception of the latter, all are not only course titles, but “things we do.” Dr. Wachenheim carries this philosophy into the classroom through extensive use of case studies and other problem-based learning exercises. Throughout her fifteen year teaching career, she has been actively involved in teaching assessment and improvement. One highlight was her time as a group leader for the University’s two year initiative to incorporate problem-based learning into the classroom. She regularly presents and publishes case studies for use in the classroom, and has recently begun to incorporate problem-based learning into her online course offerings. Her research focus in the area of strategic management and marketing for agribusiness firms has resulted in numerous case studies for use in teaching resident students, extension personnel, and public stakeholders. Her philosophy is that the best teachers are those that can most successfully incorporate ideas they borrowed from other teachers. She therefore congratulates you on your participation in this conference and hopes to take away as much as she offers.
