Plenary Presenter Dr. Frank Robinson


Dr. Frank Robinson, Associate Dean and Professor, Poultry Management/Physiology in Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Alberta, is known for his leadership and teaching abilities. He is an advocate of innovation in teaching and learning. With each progression in his teaching style, Dr. Robinson attracts more interest and involvement from students, industry partners and community members. He is influential in showing other educators how to lead and adopt similar teaching philosophies. His broiler breeder research program is internationally recognized. His leadership has led to the creation of the highly successful Alberta Poultry Research Centre.

For his part with the AgrowKnowledge 2008 Conference, Dr. Robinson will discuss how he resurrected a beginning animal science class with problem-based learning as the
focus, creating the popular “There’s a Heifer in Your Tank (HIYT) program (http://www.hiyt.afhe.ualberta.ca/). Participants will understand how to have “learning when you least expect.”
