AgrowKnowledge is planning to offer two faculty development workshops in June 2012:
These workshops offer educators the opportunity to upgrade their teaching methods and skills. Look for more details soon.
June 5 - 8, 2012 - Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Data collection has been estimated to be 75 percent of the effort in building any type of geospatial project. In agriculture, there are many different types of data that can be created. It is important that a student understand the importance of crop and soil attributes for production recordkeeping and analysis. This workshop introduces how these attributes are collected using GPS and IDIs (intelligent devices and implements) such as yield monitors. Hands on activities will be used to collect field data and create simple field maps.
June 11 - 14, 2012 - Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, Curtis, Nebraska
Data collection has been estimated to be 75 percent of the effort in building any type of geospatial project. In agriculture, collecting soil samples, yield data, pest infestations, crop input, and other features as attributes for a precision farming project is necessary to have adequate information for analytical decision making. Field collection and managing the collection of geo-referenced data, will be a major function for many students graduating from agriculture programs. The purpose of this workshop is provide field data collection techniques that can be incorporated into many agricultural programs
